MDWK at First

What's happening on Wednesdays at FBC

Wednesdays have long been called "Hump Day," meaning that it's often the most difficult day of the week, standing between the previous two days of work and the upcoming two days of work before the beloved weekend arrives. Wednesday is often the "hump" many people have to get over to coast into a work-free couple of days.

The middle of the week -- MDWK -- also provides an opportunity to get recharged and refreshed spiritually with your church family in a community of faith. That's the goal of MDWK at First. We want you to be able to get plugged into Bible study and fellowship with other believers as you seek to be the hands and feet of Jesus during the week! MDWK at First is a great opportunity to do just that!

Here's what's happening this fall at MDWK at First during Winter, 2025!

MDWK Meal | Wed, 4:30 - 6 PM | Family Life Center

Our hospitality team, under the direction of Mrs. Debbie Bassett, prepares a delicious meal every Wednesday evening! The cost is $4.00 for kids 12 and under, $6.00 for those age 13 and older, with a family maximum of $21.00. First time guests to MDWK at First eat their first meal free!

Kids at First | Wed @ 6 PM | Children's Ministry Building

We have childcare for children starting at birth for parents involved in other MDWK at First ministries and activities for children preschool through 5th grade. Children, grades 1-5, will take part in service projects such as Operation Christmas Child, visiting assisted care homes, and helping the First Baptist Church Food Pantry. Royal Ambassadors (RAs) and Girls in Action (GAs) are ministries for children that teach them about the Bible, missions, and serving others. Doors open at 5:45 pm with ministries happening from 6-7 pm.

Students at First | Wed @ 6 PM | Family Life Center (upstairs)

The Student Ministry Midweek Gathering is a time where you can hang out, eat, and look at what God says in the Bible. The Youth Area opens at 5:15 on Wednesday evenings. You can play video games, card games, pool, ping pong, carpet ball, basketball, grab a snack, or just hang out. At 6:00, we start our Midweek Gathering for some games, laughs, and a time to learn what God teaches us about living life in middle school, high school, and beyond.

Pastor's Bible Study | Wed @ 6 PM | Sanctuary

Dr. Jonathan Russell leads an All Adult Bible study in the sanctuary. These verse-by-verse studies examine a book of the Bible in great detail, and careful attention is given to how the lessons from Scripture impact daily living.

Young Adults at First | Wed @ 6 PM | Building E Room 234

Our young adults do a variety of studies from topical to walking through a book of the Bible chapter by chapter. This Fall, they are studying the Minor Prophets and how they speak to us today. Along the way, they will learn methods for studying Scripture that apply to all of the Bible.

Women at First | Wed @ 6 PM | Building E Downstairs

Join with our Women at First ministry Bible Study as they study Life Under the Sun: The Unexpectedly Good News of Ecclesiastes by Hannah Anderson.

"Turn. Turn. Turn. It often feels like life is spinning at a dizzying rate. All things ever seem to do is change. And just as soon as we get our footing, the ground shifts under us again. How can we keep our balance in such a disorienting world?

"Through this 8-session Bible study, Hannah Anderson invites us to consider the wisdom of Ecclesiastes afresh as we search for a solid foundation for life under the sun. Together, we’ll learn to name our anxieties, concerns, and disappointments. We’ll discover how Ecclesiastes is more than self-help or good advice—how it frees us to ask the questions that Jesus Himself will eventually answer. And through its raw honesty and unflinching commitment to goodness, we’ll find hope in the One who guides all days under the sun."

Men at First | Wed @ 6 PM | Building E Room 138

Our men's ministry will study 7 Challenges Men Encounter.

"Daily it's getting more challenging to be a man. Our present culture is redefining manhood and confusing men in their pursuit of Biblical manhood. But how will you respond? What will you say and do when the world demands a response? Discover how to respond by rejecting passivity, accepting responsibility, leading courageously, loving unconditionally, living with integrity, serving humbly, and investing eternally. Let others see masculinity and manhood through the lens of Christ in your life with these seven characteristics and become a better man, husband, father, and leader."

Single Moms Group Bible Study | Wed @ 6 PM | Building E Room 235

Our Single Moms will study It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way: Finding Unexpected Strength When Disappointments Leave You Shattered.

"Life often looks very different than we hoped or expected. Some events may simply catch us off guard for a moment, but others shatter us completely. At times like these, it's easy to feel disappointed and disillusioned and to wonder about the reality of God's goodness.

"So what do you do when God's timing seems questionable, his lack of intervention hurtful, and his promises doubtful?

"Lysa understands this deeply. But she's also discovered that our disappointments can be the divine appointments our souls need to radically encounter God. In this video Bible study, Lysa invites small groups and individuals into her own journey of faith. With vulnerability and honest humor, she helps us:

  • Learn how to better process unmet expectations and other painful situations.
  • Train ourselves to recognize the three strategies of the enemy so we can stand strong and persevere through unsettling relationships and uncertain outcomes.
  • Discover the secret of remaining trustful when God seems to give us more than we can handle.
  • Shift our suspicion that God is cruel or unfair to the biblical assurance that God is protecting and preparing us for what's next.
  • Know how to encourage a friend and help her navigate hard realities with real help from God's truth."
